King reiterates Jordan’s support for efforts seeking to
reinforce security in Iraq
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday reiterated Jordan’s support for efforts seeking
to reinforce security and stability in Iraq and bring an end to the cycle of violence.
During a meeting with Ambassador David Satterfield, senior adviser to US Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice and the US State Department’s coordinator for Iraq, the Monarch also said that efforts seeking to
reinforce Iraqi national reconciliation should cover all sects in order to ensure its success.
During the meeting, the two sides also reviewed ways to revive the peace process between the Palestinians
and the Israelis and bring the two sides back to the negotiating table.
Satterfield, who briefed the Monarch on US measures to help the Iraqi government achieve stability, said
he appreciated King Abdullah’s efforts to establish peace and stability in the region.
Also on Sunday, during a meeting with the general mufti of Jordan, Nooh Al Qudah, King Abdullah said it was
important to stand against fatwas that run contrary to religious preaching, adding that Muslims should build
an integrated society that is free of intellectual, social and political wrongs.
The Monarch highlighted the important role of iftaa in addressing challenges facing the region and enhancing
the ideal values called for by Islam
His Majesty affirmed his support for efforts exerted by the Iftaa Department and called for providing it with
the needed support to enable it to perform its duties.
The King said it was important to regulate the process of issuing fatwas needed by citizens in their daily life,
based on the rules of religion and Islamic Sharia to ensure equality and justice among all.
He also highlighted the role that could be played by the Iftaa Department in providing consultation to various
departments.
Qudah was appointed as general mufti of the Kingdom by a Royal Decree issued on February 28.
Also yesterday, King Abdullah received Ibrahim Shbouh, director of the Al al Bait Foundation for Islamic Thought,
who presented His Majesty with a copy of the new edition of the Book of Al Ebar by Ibn Khaldun.
During the meeting, which was attended by the King’s Personal Envoy and Special Adviser HRH Prince Ghazi Ben Mohammad,
Shbouh reviewed efforts exerted to issue this first edition, which is taken from the original book by the Arab and
Islamic historian on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of his passing away.
