MEDIA participants visit QRFCC
AMMAN (JT) — A group of 20 US students visited the Queen Rania Family and Child
Centre (QRFCC) on Monday to study the centre's approach to poverty, violence and
youth mentoring.
The students, participants in the Media Education and Democracy in Action
(MEDIA) programme, toured the centre's facilities and were briefed on the
centre's areas of intervention.
The MEDIA programme is designed to provide students with a general understanding
of mass media and how it impacts individuals, culture and important issues such
as politics and democracy.
Saba Mubaslat, the technical assistant at QRFCC, praised the participants'
efforts in addressing critical social issues through the media.
“I am always glad to meet active members of society interested in the challenges
facing communities around the world. I hope to see more youth involved in such
projects in the future. Media brings our world together and makes people realise
that we all suffer from the same problems,” she said.
According to a statement released by the Jordan River Foundation, the QRFCC
seeks to prevent child abuse through awareness and training programmes, which
integrate services combining early childhood development, social services,
counselling, and family support with creative skills and capacity building
programmes for children, parents and professionals.
The centre is the first of its kind in the Arab world to adopt an Arab approach
in developing services that are tailored to meet the needs of the culture,
making it a potential future hub for training professionals across the region.
MEDIA is funded by the US State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs under its Linking Individuals, Knowledge and Culture Initiative.
