Jordanian Nursing Day marked
AMMAN (JT) — HRH Princess Muna yesterday launched the “Princess Muna Scholarship
Fund for Nursing” at a ceremony to mark Jordanian Nursing Day, which coincides
with her birthday.
The fund, another major contribution from the Princess to the nursing sector,
will award scholarships to students enrolled in undergraduate nursing programmes
in public universities.
The objective of the fund is to encourage excellence in nursing, attract Tawjihi
students to join nursing baccalaureate programmes, support students of good
academic standing who choose to join these programmes and those who are in need
of financial support.
It also seeks to encourage women to enrol in the nursing profession and nursing
association degree graduates in completion baccalaureate programmes in public
universities.
The Princess has devoted much of her energies in establishing a solid foundation
for healthcare in the Kingdom, steering national endeavours to upgrade nursing
and midwifery standards.
Princess Muna has repeatedly underlined the need to begin research in nursing
and training to upgrade medical services.
The ceremony was organised by the Jordanian Nursing Council in collaboration
with the Nurses and Midwives Association.
In his speech at the ceremony, Minster of Health Saeed Darwazeh said His Majesty
King Abdullah's directives focused on building the abilities of citizens by
qualifying and preparing them to reach the desired level.
He noted that the nursing sector has received a lot of attention through the
establishment of nursing schools, colleges and specialised institutes, in
addition to scholarships and training courses for nurses.
Nurses from various health sectors, student nurses from the public universities
and senior officials attended yesterday's ceremony.
