King lauds efforts of labour force
AMMAN (JT) — His Majesty King Abdullah
highlighted the role of Jordanian labourers in efforts to turn the Kingdom into
“a model country where the values of justice and equality prevail.”
In a cable addressed to General Federation of Labour Unions (GFLU) President
Mazen Maaytah on the occasion of Labour Day and the 50th anniversary of his
organisation, the King commended the country's labour force and called for
continuous efforts to build the country with a spirit of teamwork.
In an address to the King on the occasion, Maaytah renewed the country's
1,200,000 workers' allegiance to the leadership, stressing that the labour force
stands united in the face of all forms of terrorism.
A similar cable was sent to the Monarch by Minister of Labour Amjad Majali.
Deputising for King Abdullah, Prime Minister Faisal Fayez attended a ceremony
held by GFLU to mark their golden jubilee.
On the occasion, the King bestowed the King Hussein Medal of the First Order for
Excellence on the federation for its role and efforts in serving the country
over the past five decades.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the labour force's achievements and its
role in the comprehensive development process.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the Prophet Mohammad's birthday, King Abdullah
received cables of good wishes from heads of state in the Arab and Muslim
worlds. The premier, speakers of parliament, directors of the intelligence,
public security and civil defence departments, and representatives of different
public and private sectors in the Kingdom also sent cables of good wishes to the
King.
