Badran to meet Assad today
DAMASCUS (Petra) — Prime Minister Adnan Badran on
Monday said he was to deliver today a letter from His Majesty King Abdullah to
Syrian President Bashar Assad on bilateral ties.
Badran was speaking to reporters here after discussing with his Syrian
counterpart Mohammad Otri means to enhance bilateral relations as well as the
Palestinian and Iraqi developments.
Badran, meanwhile, said he plans to visit several Arab Gulf states to boost
cooperation in all fields.
Earlier, Badran and Otri agreed on the need to implement the February agreements
signed in Amman between both sides on economic, commercial, tourism and border
issues.
On regional issues, Badran reiterated that Iraqis should be empowered to rebuild
their country and restore security and stability.
He stressed the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive solution to the
Arab-Israeli conflict in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace
Initiative. Badran underlined the importance of the roadmap to the Middle East
peace process and said any Israeli withdrawal from Gaza should be part of the
plan. He was accompanied by Minster of Interior Awni Yarvas and Foreign Minister
Farouq Qasrawi.
Yarvas and Syrian Minister of Defence Hassan Turkmani signed an agreement to
exchange civil defence expertise and cooperate during natural disasters.
Yarvas also met with his Syrian counterpart Ghazi Kanaan for talks on border
issues. Meanwhile, Qasrawi met with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq Sharaa and
reviewed the latest regional developments, including the Palestinian and Iraqi
issues.
