Badran to meet Assad today

DAMASCUS (Petra) — Prime Minister Adnan Badran on Monday said he was to deliver today a letter from His Majesty King Abdullah to Syrian President Bashar Assad on bilateral ties.

Badran was speaking to reporters here after discussing with his Syrian counterpart Mohammad Otri means to enhance bilateral relations as well as the Palestinian and Iraqi developments.

Badran, meanwhile, said he plans to visit several Arab Gulf states to boost cooperation in all fields.

Earlier, Badran and Otri agreed on the need to implement the February agreements signed in Amman between both sides on economic, commercial, tourism and border issues.

On regional issues, Badran reiterated that Iraqis should be empowered to rebuild their country and restore security and stability.

He stressed the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. Badran underlined the importance of the roadmap to the Middle East peace process and said any Israeli withdrawal from Gaza should be part of the plan. He was accompanied by Minster of Interior Awni Yarvas and Foreign Minister Farouq Qasrawi.

Yarvas and Syrian Minister of Defence Hassan Turkmani signed an agreement to exchange civil defence expertise and cooperate during natural disasters.

Yarvas also met with his Syrian counterpart Ghazi Kanaan for talks on border issues. Meanwhile, Qasrawi met with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq Sharaa and reviewed the latest regional developments, including the Palestinian and Iraqi issues.
