Monarch holds talks with Wolfensohn, Frist
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday reiterated the need for a continuous US support for the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
King Abdullah added that the US should help both
sides achieve a just solution to the conflict in line with the roadmap to the
Middle East peace process.
The King was receiving with Her Majesty Queen Rania newly appointed Special
Envoy for Gaza Disengagement James Wolfensohn, US Senate Majority Leader Bill
Frist (R-TN) and his wife Karyn.
Reiterating that there is a real opportunity to achieve peace in the region
under the roadmap, the Monarch said Israel's Gaza pullout should be followed by
a withdrawal from the West Bank.
The establishment of a geographically connected Palestinian state, King Abdullah
said, is the basis for a comprehensive and lasting peace. He added that the
international community should support the Palestinian leadership's efforts to
reform its institutions, revive the economy and ease the suffering of the
Palestinian people. The King, meanwhile, urged international backing for Iraq's
political process and the new government to entrench stability and security in
the country.
The King also discussed with Frist ways to enhance Jordanian-US ties,
highlighting the US' assistance to the Kingdom's development programmes.
