Workshop on media laws,
ethics begins today
AMMAN (JT) — A three-day training workshop titled “Media Laws and Ethics”
organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation begins today under the patronage
of Minister of Culture Asma Khader. The training seeks to introduce
international standards of press freedom, local press laws and legislation and
the role of the media in enhancing democracy and human rights and fighting
corruption. It will present decisions by judges and courts with regard to press
crimes in an attempt to analyse these decisions in comparison with laws
governing the media in democratic countries. The workshop will also present the
different media codes of conduct in the Arab world as well as international
ones. The workshop seeks to come up with a Jordanian code of ethics for
journalism, which reflects the concerns of national security and international
standards of freedom of expression. Twenty-five journalists from daily and
weekly newspapers and magazines will take part in the event.
