King calls for investments in Tafileh Governorate
AMMAN (JT) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday
issued directives to the government to draw the private sector's attention to
investing in the Tafileh Governorate and establishing productive projects that
would alleviate poverty and create more jobs for local residents.
At a meeting with key figures from Tafileh at Raghadan Palace, the King
instructed that financial support be allocated from the King Abdullah II Fund
for Development for projects in the governorate.
King Abdullah said addressing poverty and curbing unemployment require the
government and the private sector to join ranks and coordinate their efforts.
Citing an undesirably high percentage of immigrants from this district to the
capital, the Monarch stressed the need for private investments in Tafileh that
go hand-in-hand with development plans the government is implementing in the
area.
His Majesty said a plan to establish an industrial estate in Tafileh is still a
strong option, and the government is discussing the feasibility of such a
project with the private sector.
The Monarch underlined the Kingdom's determination to proceed with achieving
comprehensive political development where various sections of society actively
take part.
He reiterated that empowering the Jordan Armed Forces and the security services
is a top national priority, saying that these forces have been for years
supplied with the necessary know-how and advanced equipment to carry out their
missions.
On the regional situation, the King highlighted the country's efforts to ensure
the rights of the Palestinian people. He said the language of violence and the
use of force will only lead to chaos and instability in the region instead of
the desired peace and security.
Prime Minister Faisal Fayez, the King's Private Adviser Yousif Dalabih, the
King's Adviser for Tribal Affairs Sharif Fawaz Zaben Abdullah and Minister of
Planning and International Cooperation Bassem Awadallah attended the meeting.
Also on Tuesday, His Majesty received a Rotary International delegation, here to
attend a conference that started on May 1.
Participants are discussing programmes and projects Rotary clubs are undertaking
in several countries to enhance cooperation with regard to community development
and improving the standard of living in underprivilged areas.
