Reform should emerge from
within — Badran
AMMAN (Petra) — Prime Minister Adnan Badran on Wednesday said Jordan believes
that reform should emerge from within and be in harmony with society's cultural
heritage.
During a meeting with a delegation from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA),
he said the government was determined to carry out political and socio-economic
reforms, pointing out to the possibility of benefiting from others' experiences
without copying one particular model as each country is different.
The delegation will participate in a two-day international seminar at the Dead
Sea beginning today on “Recent Development and New Political Perspectives in the
Broader Middle East Region.”
Badran said the international community should help achieve a just,
comprehensive and sustainable peace in the region, as well as supporting the new
Iraqi government to build its institutions.
In a separate meeting yesterday, the premier met with a delegation representing
the France-Jordan Friendship Group in the French national assembly.
He said French investment, which currently constitutes the highest foreign
investment volume in the Kingdom, contributes to enhancing national economic
development and encourages others to invest in Jordan.
Deputy Prime Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Political
Development Hisham Tal attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Farouq Qasrawi met separately with the NPA and
French delegations.
Discussions with both delegations focused on current regional developments.
Also Wednesday, Senate President Zeid Rifai and members of the Senate's Foreign
Affairs Committee met with the NPA delegation.
