Jordan affirms support to Int'l anti-terror efforts
Amman, May 6 (Petra) Jordan has affirmed its
support to international efforts in combating all forms of terrorism and to the
UN role in this regard through implementing Security Council relevant
resolutions and endorsing international treaties aimed to fight terror.
"Jordan stressed the need for concerted international and regional efforts to
encounter terrorism and eliminate its sources wherever they are," said Interior
Minister Eid al-Fayez in Jordan's address before the EU interior ministers
conference opened in Vienna under the title "The Role of Internal Security in
Relations between the EU and the Countries around it".
The Jordanian government has always showed respect to international resolutions
and has understood the UN Security Council Resolution 1373 issued after attacks
on New York on September 11. 2001, Fayez said citing several agreements and
accords endorsed by Jordan to combat all forms of terror.
"Jordan believes in the concept of comprehensive regional security which can
only be attained through cooperation and coordination between the Arab states
and the neighboring countries and organizations particularly the EU," Fayez told
his audience.
Because of its moderate policy and because it is a country advocating peace and
stability in the Middle East and the world at large, Jordan is still being
targeted by terrorist groups, he added.
He said terror contradicts Islam's principles of tolerance and justice which
prohibit the killing of innocent people and the Amman Message issued by His
Majesty King Abdullah II came to emphasize rules of true Islam the regulates the
sound human conduct, Fayez told the conference concluded with Vienna Declaration
" Partnership for Security". The declaration called for developing an effective
international partnership to achieve security and stability for all.
