Global village to promote tourism, economic and folklore performances during July/August
AMMAN (Petra) — Work has started on the construction of a global village where at least 21 countries are setting up wings for displaying their national products and presenting folklore performances.
Undertaken by Ahmad Masri Establishment on the
grounds of the International Motor Show, the project will have a large theatre
seating 4,000 visitors for plays from local troupes and non-Jordanian countries,
Jordan Investment Board (JIB) Executive Director Reem Badran told a press
conference.
She indicated that the project is bound to contribute towards boosting tourism
in Jordan, stressing the government support for such investment schemes that
contribute to promoting the Kingdom's capabilities.
According to Ula Awamleh, director of the global village, at least three million
people are expected to visit the site during the one-month event from July 15
until August 15.
At least 1,500 Jordanians will be employed in providing services to the
visitors, said Awamleh noting that a total of 44 wings will be mounted at the
site which will also include children playground facilities set on 14 dunums of
land, a health and civil defence centres.
Jordan will mount a large pavilion displaying national products in addition to
pavilions for the Aqaba Commission, the Jordan Export Development and JIB.
