Water Ministry announces summer rationing programme
AMMAN (J.T.) The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Tuesday announced that it will implement a new water rationing programme in the Kingdom as of Saturday as part of its contingency plan to meet this year's projected 10 per cent water shortage due to a regional drought.
In a copy of the programme made available to the Jordan Times, the ministry said it will pump water 24-36 hours a week to Amman, home to almost half of Jordan's population of 4.6 million. The capital consumes 45 per cent of the country's total drinking water 300 million cubic metres.
