Jordan committed to ILO agreements – PM
AMMAN (JT) — Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit on Tuesday stressed Jordan’s commitment to all deals signed with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), emphasising that the government has responded immediately to previous violations of workers’ rights in the Qualified Industrial Zones. The premier made his remarks during a meeting yesterday with ILO Regional Director Nada Nashef, where he commended the organisation’s support for the Kingdom’s development process. Nashef, who commended Jordan’s signing of the Decent Work Programme in 2006, called on the Arab world to adopt the programme as it helps alleviate poverty. The programme is aimed at implementing international labour standards, improving production capacity and working conditions, as well as creating jobs and protecting workers’ rights. The ILO will provide technical assistance over the coming three years to help implement the agreement.
