Jordan welcomes Arab summit resolutions

AMMAN (JT) — Jordan on Monday welcomed the resolutions taken by the Arab summit in Tunis in support of the Palestinian and Iraqi peoples “who are subject to human rights violations.”

In her weekly press briefing, Minister of State and Government Spokesperson Asma Khader commended the Arab leaders' decision to offer financial aid to the Palestinians, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported

Arab leaders concluded a two-day summit in Tunis on Sunday by making a collective commitment to promote domestic reform, linked to a just settlement of regional conflicts, particularly the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

On the implementation of stipulations in the reform document signed by the Arab countries, she said this matter is left to each country to decide in accordance with its internal situation.

Although there is consensus among Arab states on the need for reforms, Khader told reporters, each country has its own plans and visions of how these reforms should be put into effect.

The spokesperson announced that a planned Cabinet retreat to review the performance of ministries was still on the agenda, attributing the delay to the heavy schedule recently such as the World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea and the Arab summit.

Asked for details on the shooting incident at King Hussein Bridge, Khader said a Jordanian soldier “fired one shot in the air,” adding that details would be released after the investigation is completed.

She also announced that a three-day cultural conference would begin on June 1 under the patronage of Prime Minister Faisal Fayez. Representatives of cultural centres and officials will discuss the establishment of a higher council for culture.
