Thuheirat urges women take part in municipal elections

JERASH (Petra) — Minister of Municipal Affairs Nader Thuheirat on Thursday highlighted the importance of women’s participation in the forthcoming municipal elections. Thuheirat, who made the remarks in a seminar at the Jerash Municipality, said the allocation of 211 out of 929 municipal council seats for women would ensure women’s role in the decision-making process. During the seminar, Jerash Governor Mohammad Rawashdeh talked about the evolution of democratic legislation in Jordan, referring to women’s role in parliamentary and municipal elections, in addition to their involvement in political life and the economic and social development taking place in Jordan. According to Rawashdeh, the five municipal councils in the Governorate of Jerash have 43 members, of which 10 seats are allocated for women.
