Alleged execution of Jordanian in Iraq probed

AMMAN (JT) — Minister of Culture and Government Spokesperson Asma Khader on Wednesday said authorities were investigating the alleged execution of a citizen by militants in Iraq.

Khader could not give details on the fate of truck driver Hamid Ismael Sane, whose family recently informed the Foreign Ministry that he was missing, according to Spokesperson Rajab Sukayri.

On Monday, Agence France-Presse quoted a statement posted on an Al Qaeda-linked group's website as claiming the execution of Sane and two Iraqi drivers, who ferried supplies to US forces in Iraq.

The Army of Ansar Al Sunna said Sane was “seized while transporting supplies from Aqaba to US bases in Iraq.”

A videotape posted on the same website showed the man identified as Sane, kneeling down with his hands tied behind his back, apologising and calling on fellow Jordanian drivers to stop transporting goods to US forces in Iraq, according to AFP.

The man was then shot several times in the head by a masked man.
