King condoles Indonesian president
AMMAN (JT) — King Abdullah on Saturday sent a
letter of condolences to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,
expressing his deepest sympathies over the death of thousands in a magnitude-6.2
quake near the ancient city of Yogyakarta, east of Jakarta.
King Abdullah, who left Friday for the US on a several-day visit, also offered
his condolences to the Indonesian people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra,
reported.
During his US trip, the King was expected to visit educational and scientific
research institutions in Massachusetts and New York.
A Royal Court official could not confirm to Agence France-Presse if the King
would meet with President George W. Bush during the visit.
Last week, the King sent a letter to Bush warning of the negative effect a
unilateral Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territory would have on the
Palestinians.
Four days later, Bush telephoned the King for talks, which the White House said,
centred on Iraq.
