Irbid industrialists request approval to set up 'Irbid chamber of Industry'

AMMAN (J.T.) — The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply is studying the request of 25 industries in the governorate of Irbid to set up an industry chamber to be known as the Irbid Chamber of Industry similar to the Zarqa Chamber of Industry which was established recently.

Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Hani Mulki said the law allows establishing industry chambers in the governorates and the ministry cannot prevent the industrialists from setting up chambers. However, he called on the industrialists not to rush for establishing chambers and indicated that the ministry is currently conducting a comprehensive reorganisation for the industrial sector in the Kingdom.

The industrialists indicated in their request that there is an increase in industrial projects in the governorate and an influx of Arab and foreign investors to establish industries in Irbid. “Especially after the establishment of the Al Hassan Industrial Estate, which now houses more than 150 industries, there is a need to create an institution to look after the interest of the industrialists and to provide the necessary services to them,” they said in the request.
