Bashir invites King to visit Sudan

AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received an invitation from Sudanese President Omar Hassan Bashir to visit his country.

In his message, Bashir, praising King Abdullah's continuing efforts to support Arab solidarity, said he would like to invite the King again to visit Sudan in order to examine its achievements and its moves to end the conflict in the south.

Also on Monday, King Abdullah received a cable from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in reply to his congratulatory letter on his election as head of state. Bouteflika expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the King.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah on Monday phoned Saudi Arabia's Prince Sultan Ben Abdul Aziz, second deputy prime minister, minister of defence and aviation and the armed forces general inspector, who reassured the King on King Fahd's health.

Prince Sultan expressed deep appreciation for King Abdullah, who wished the Saudi monarch a speedy recovery.

King Abdullah on Monday received U.S. Congressman Tony Hall for talks on bilateral economic relations. The King, who was briefed by Hall on efforts to assist Jordan, praised the U.S. role to support and develop the Kingdom's economy. Prime Minister Abdur-Ra'uf S. Rawabdeh and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Akel Biltaji attended the meeting.

Also on the same day, King Abdullah met with the president of the Arab Bar Associations, Farouq Abu Isa, and stressed his support and appreciation for the organisation's efforts.

The King also stressed the importance of Arab advocates in preserving human rights and public freedoms as well as developing legislation. During the meeting, which was attended by Rawabdeh, Abu Isa thanked the King and expressed appreciation for his role in maintaining public freedoms and citizens' rights.
