Jordan to train Iraqi water experts — Nasser
By Rami Abdelrahman
DEAD SEA — Minister of Water and Irrigation Hazem Nasser on Monday said Jordan
will train Iraqi water specialists and officials to help them tackle water
situation in the war-hit country.
Nasser was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the five-day International
Water Demand Management Conference at the Dead Sea, but gave no further details.
Iraqi interim minister of municipal affairs, Nisreen Belwari, who is also in
charge of water distribution, welcomed the decision and said further cooperation
will take place between the two neighbouring countries.
“Jordan, Egypt and Tunis were the first to offer help us rebuild our
capabilities,” the minister said, adding that training programme will be funded
by the World Bank.
Hundreds of delegates gathered on the shores of the Dead Sea yesterday for a
second day of talks on dwindling world water resources amid calls by experts for
a collective management effort.
