King, Toledo call for stronger relations between Arab world, Latin America

AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah and Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo called on Tuesday for stronger relations between the Arab world and Latin America.

At a Basman Palace meeting, the two leaders commended the outcome of the recently held Arab-Latin American summit in Brasilia as “a turning point for cultural, economic and political ties that serve sustainable development” in both regions.

King Abdullah briefed Toledo, who concluded his two-day visit to the Kingdom yesterday, on efforts to achieve peace in the region and end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The King reiterated that establishing “a viable and independent Palestinian state that peacefully lives side by side with Israel would certainly push forward development efforts in the region.”

The King said Latin America should back the Middle East peace process.

The King, meanwhile, said Iraqis need the international support to build a unified, stable and safe country.

During the meeting, King Abdullah bestowed Al Nahda Medal on Toledo, who presented the Monarch with the prestigious order of El Sol del Peru (the sun of Peru).
