Cabinet endorses King Hussein Foundation

AMMAN (J.T.) — The Council of Ministers on Thursday endorsed a law establishing the King Hussein Foundation which His Majesty King Abdullah announced on March 3, 1999, when he entrusted Her Majesty Queen Noor to take steps towards its creation.

In an official statement, the government said: The foundation will be established in implementation of a Royal Decree by King Abdullah on the establishment of the King Hussein Foundation and the letter he sent to Queen Noor to establish the foundation. It will be dedicated to pursuing the late King's humanitarian and social endeavours for the benefit of Jordanian society and for the protection of its environment. The foundation's goal is to promote Jordan's status among world nations and will help consolidate the principles of world peace.

In his letter to the Queen, King Abdullah paid tribute to her for sharing the late King's thoughts and faith and work for the good of Jordan and the Jordanian people.

“To continue [King Hussein's] legacy we saw that a foundation should be established in the Kingdom bearing his name and I designate it to Your Majesty to establish it and serve as its head,” wrote King Abdullah.

Queen Noor later appointed members of the foundation's board of trustees which groups l8 prominent personalities including Their Royal Highnesses Prince Zeid Ben Shaker and Princess Wijdan Ali.
