King to meet Olmert Thursday
More than 1,000 scholars, researchers and experts on the region will gather next week in Amman at the Second World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES-2), a Royal Court statement said yesterday. A keynote speech by King Abdullah, to be delivered at the WOCMES-2’s official opening ceremony on June 12 was expected to address “the role of academia and critical inquiry in raising global awareness, challenging stereotypes and demystifying the Middle East, essentially building the groundwork for peace and stability in the region.” Prince Hassan, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies, the Amman-based organiser of the event, will also address the participants. Several Jordanian students will participate in the conference, interacting with their counterparts from over 50 countries. Jordan will be the first Arab country to host the five-day gathering, the largest to take place in the region — JT
