King leaves today for US
By Khalid Dalal
AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah is expected to leave today for the US to
participate in the G-8 summit and to hold talks with President George Bush on
bilateral and regional issues, a senior Royal Court official said.
“King Abdullah is scheduled to take part in the
summit on Wednesday. He will also meet heads of state taking part in the event
to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues, namely the Middle East peace
process and the situation in Iraq,” the official told The Jordan Times.
On Friday, the King will head to Chicago to address the Economic Club of Chicago
and the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, focusing on investment and
economic opportunities in Jordan and the reform process in the Arab world.
The Monarch's talks with Bush are scheduled for June 15, after meeting senior
administration officials in Washington.
“During their meeting, both leaders will discuss ways to revive the roadmap and
evaluate the recent political developments in Iraq, especially after the
appointments of a new president and prime minister,” said the Royal Court
official. King Abdullah is scheduled to meet US congressional committees on June
16.
