Ministers meet with
Senate committee
AMMAN, June 13 (Petra) - The Senate Monetary and Economic Affairs Committee on
Sunday met with several ministers and officials to discuss the government's
programs for the coming stage. Senate President Zeid Rifai stressed the
importance of addressing economic issues. The ministers of finance, energy and
mineral resources, industry and trade, and planning and international
cooperation, in addition to the Central Bank governor, reviewed the government's
program, which focuses on reducing debt, restructuring the taxation system and
realizing high growth in exports. Senator Rajai Muasher, the committee's
rapporteur, said the panel was convinced the government has a clear program to
deal with any economic developments. Finance Minister Bassem Awadallah said
there would be no increase in taxes this year and the government would work on
improving tax collection and curbing tax evasion.
