Badran reviews EPC's privatization program
AMMAN, June 16 (Petra) - Prime Minister Adnan
Badran reiterated on Wednesday the government's support for the country's
privatization program valuing the efforts of the Executive Privatization
Commission (EPC) which has so far attracted several strategic partners and
investors.
Chairing the sixth meeting of the EPC, Badran examined steps for implementing
His Majesty King Abdullah's directives to allocate a portion of company shares
slated for privatization to military personnel and retirees.
The allocated shares would be sold to the beneficiaries at preferential prices.
During the meeting, several privatization related-issues were discussed,
including the steps taken to privatize the electricity sector.
The EPC board also examined recommendations presented by a steering committee to
privatize the Central Electricity Generating Company and the Electricity
Distribution Company.
Latest steps taken for the privatization of Royal Jordanian were outlined
stressing the need to appoint a counselor to work out a convenient strategy for
the privatization of the national carrier, in light of the improving aviation
conditions in the region. The board also examined the latest developments with
regard to the privatization of Jordan Aircraft Maintenance Ltd.
