Muslim scholars to convene on June 24

AMMAN (Petra) — More than 100 Muslim scholars and thinkers from 44 Islamic countries will convene on June 24, at the 17th Islamic Fiqh Academy Conference (IFA), hosted by Al al Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, under Royal patronage. According to Abdul Salam Abbadi, chairman of the conference's preparatory committee and Jordan's representative in IFA, the five-day conference will tackle Islam's position on extremism and terrorism, conditions of fatwas [religious edicts], the relationship between the Islamic state and other countries and international charters. Participants will present papers on Islamic denominations and fiqh (jurisprudence) schools, the situation of women and their social role from an Islamic perspective, among other issues. IFA was established in 1981 according to a decision of the third Islamic Summit Conference.
