King, Kuwaiti crown prince discuss Mideast issues, bilateral relations
AMMAN (Petra) — King Abdullah on Tuesday called
for lifting international sanctions on the Palestinians, at talks with visiting
Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah.
During a meeting with Sheikh Nawaf, who arrived here on a two-day official
visit, the King stressed the need to facilitate the flow of humanitarian
assistance to the Gaza Strip.
The Monarch and the crown prince discussed the developments in the Palestinian
territories and their impact on the efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive
peace settlement to the Middle East core conflict.
The two leaders reiterated that the Arab Peace Initiative provide a suitable
launchpad for reviving the peace process, leading to a just solution to the
Palestinian problem.
The talks also covered the situations in Lebanon and Iraq.
On bilateral relations, King Abdullah and Sheikh Nawaf said they were keen to
enhance joint cooperation, particularly in economic fields.
The King said Jordan appreciates Kuwait’s continued assistance to the country’s
development projects.
Kuwaiti investments in Jordan’s telecommunications, banking, real estate and
other sectors stand at more than $6 billion.
The Kuwait Jordan Holding Company, which was launched in 2004 during a visit by
King Abdullah to Kuwait, with a capital totalling $122 million, announced
recently that it was conducting studies to establish a tourist resort and a
commercial centre at the Dead Sea at a cost reaching up to $200 million.
The company, the largest Kuwaiti investor group in the country so far, will also
build a $230 million cement factory and a slaughterhouse at an estimated cost of
$30 million.
