Muasher briefs Saudi counterpart on G-8 meeting
AMMAN (Petra) — Minister of Foreign Affairs Marwan Muasher on Sunday briefed his Saudi counterpart Prince Saud Al Faisal on the outcome of Jordan's recent meetings and contacts at the G-8 summit as well as His Majesty King Abdullah's talks with US officials concerning Arab affairs.
In his telephone call to Prince Saud, Muasher
reiterated Jordan's absolute support for Saudi Arabia's measures to deal with
terrorist acts in the country and its full backing for Riyadh in the war against
terrorism.
The two ministers reviewed the situation in the occupied Palestinian lands,
stressing the need for moves to be taken for the resumption of peace
negotiations that can guarantee the implementation of the roadmap peace plan,
which calls for the end of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories and
the emergence of an independent Palestinian state.
The two ministers also underlined the need for reforms in the Arab world,
stemming from within Arab countries' needs and serving their national interest.
Muasher and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Maher on Saturday evening discussed
by phone the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the outcome
of Jordan's contacts with US officials and G-8 leaders.
Muasher said Egypt and Jordan hold identical views on this issue and on the need
for reforms in Arab countries.
The two ministers reaffirmed the need for Israel to halt its aggression against
the Palestinian people and the necessity for a just political solution that
would lead to an end of Israel's occupation of Arab land, a vital step to pave
the way for the reforms process to start.
