US Ambassador Visits Qualified Industrial Estate

Karak, June 23 (Petra)--US ambassador to Jordan, Edward Gnehm visited on Wednesday Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II Industrial Estate in the Karak governorate, where he toured the International Al Jamal Company for garments manufacturing. The ambassador was briefed on the training program carried out for Jordanian labors at the company to provide them with skills in manufacturing garments. The company currently employs 3500 employees, half of which are Jordanians from the Karak governorate. Gnehm, accompanied by the Karak governor and director of the Karak police also visited Expo Company for garment manufacturing. Expo is a joint Jordanian-American company that is expected to start production next July. The Qualified Industrial Zones have provided, since 1998 about 35,000 job opportunities, 65 percent of which are for Jordanians. Revenues of the QIZ during last year stood at $560 million and they are expected to grow to reach $ 1 billion this year.
