Saudi monarch on key
visit to Jordan
AMMAN (Petra) — Saudi King Abdullah is expected to arrive in Jordan on Wednesday
on a two-day visit for talks with King Abdullah on regional issues and bilateral
relations.
The Jordanian-Saudi summit will focus on examining several Middle East issues,
mainly the repercussions of the events in the Palestinian territories, Lebanon
and Iraq.
The meeting will also discuss means to revive the peace process in line with the
Arab Peace Initiative, to which Arab leaders reiterated their commitment at the
Riyadh summit in March.
The Saudi monarch’s visit, the first since he ascended the throne, will be part
of continued coordination and consultation with King Abdullah, as well as
keenness by the two leaders to enhance bilateral ties in all fields for the
interests of both countries.
The trip also comes at a time of major challenges facing the Arab and Muslim
nations — which require unified stands and intensified efforts to relaunch the
peace process, resume Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations, restore
Palestinian rights and establish an independent state.
Jordanian-Saudi relations witnessed key development and growth in all fields.
Trade volume between the two countries stood at $1 billion in 2006.
The two countries are bound by several economic, trade, investment, health,
educational and tourism agreements.
