Ad hoc committee to outline
vision for anti-corruption draft
AMMAN, June 28 (JT) — Prime Minister Adnan Badran on Monday formed an ad hoc
committee tasked with outlining a vision for an anti-corruption draft law,
requested by His Majesty King Abdullah in a letter to the premier on Sunday, the
Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The committee comprises Minister of Justice Mohammad Alawneh and Minister of
State for Legal Affairs Abed Shakhanbeh, along with the head of the Legislation
Bureau at the Prime Ministry. Acting President Qassem Abdo now runs the bureau,
which handles proposed laws before they are forwarded to the Cabinet for
approval.
The King directed the government to form an independent commission to draft a
law to combat corruption on Sunday, stressing that the legislation should be
given "urgency status" and referred to Parliament for endorsement as soon as
possible.
