King invites Assad to Jordan
Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit on Wednesday met in
Damascus with President Bashar Assad and delivered a letter from King Abdullah,
who invited the Syrian leader to visit Jordan. In the letter, the King reviewed
means to boost bilateral relations as well as issues of mutual concern. During
the meeting, Assad told Bakhit that he was looking forward to enhancing
cooperation between the two countries. Bakhit, for his part, underlined “the
deeply established ties” between the two neighbours, adding that the
Amman-Damascus relations “were continuously growing and developing upon
directives by the leaderships of the two brotherly countries”. Bakhit told the
Jordan News Agency, Petra, after the meeting that his talks with Assad were
“very positive”, saying he sensed that the president “was keen on pushing
forward bilateral ties and finding solutions to pending issues”. He quoted Assad
as voicing support for the Jordanian-Syrian Higher Committee, which began its
meetings last night. The premier said he was satisfied with the level of
cooperation between Jordan and Syria.
