Majali Receives US Congressional Aides Delegation
Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Abdul Hadi Majali reviewed on Monday aspects of the Arab peace initiative which was approved during
the Beirut summit .
During a meeting with a delegation of US Congressional aides, that was attended by members of the Parliament's Arab and International
Affairs Committee, Majali said the initiative was as a balanced one that needs the support of super powers to end the Arab –Israeli conflict.
The speaker also reviewed the current situation in the region and challenges facing Jordan.
The external challenges facing Jordan, he said were developments in the region, especially in Iraq and Palestine, while the internal
challenges were indebtedness , the rise of oil prices and the need to be a model for others in the democratic field.
He also stressed the importance of ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian
national soil with Jerusalem as its capital, highlighting His Majesty King Abdullah's efforts to achieve comprehensive and just peace in
the region
Majali expressed rejection of any external interferences in the region’s affairs, stressing the importance of preserving the Arab identity
and unity of Iraq.
The speaker briefed the delegation on the role of the Lower House towards various issues, and the relationship with the executive authority.
