Parliamentarians hold
talks with US delegation
AMMAN (Petra) — The Senate Foreign Affairs Committee on Monday met with a
delegation of US congressional aides. Discussions focussed on Jordan-US
relations as well as the situation in the region. Assistant Senate President
Senator Laila Sharaf highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts of to
achieve peace in the region and resume peace negotiations between the
Palestinians and Israelis, leading to the establishment of an independent
Palestinian state. Sharaf also reviewed recent achievements in increasing the
participation of women and youth in political life. Lower House Speaker Abdul
Hadi Majali also met with the US congressional aides on Monday. During the
meeting, he reviewed the goals of the Arab Peace Initiative, underlining that
the support of world powers was needed to end the Arab-Israeli conflict. The
speaker also briefed the delegation on external and internal challenges facing
the Kingdom. Members of the Lower House Arab and International Affairs Committee
also attended the meeting.
