Muasher briefs Lower House committee

AMMAN (Petra) — Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher stressed on Tuesday during his meeting with the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee that the Kingdom is not willing to reclaim any role in the West Bank. He added that the Jordanian role is restricted to training Palestinian policemen upon requests from the Palestinian National Authority and is conditioned by supporting Egypt's efforts to unify the Palestinian security forces and resume the Palestinian dialogue. The dialogue should lead to a cessation of fire approved by all Palestinian factions, Muasher said. Egypt's efforts also aim that Israel, in turn, ceases fire and halts its policy of assassinations. He pointed out that the International Court of Justice would unveil its ruling regarding the separation barrier Israel is building on the 9th of this month, saying that Arab legal experts would meet the same day to coordinate stands on the issue. On the Iraqi issue, Muasher said the Kingdom's declaration to send an ambassador to Iraq is to support and strengthen ties with Iraq. However, sending an ambassador under the present security situation is not possible for the time being, not until measures to secure the Jordanian embassy in Baghdad are ensured, he added.
