Fayez, Muasher meet Ibrahimi on Iraq
AMMAN (Petra) — Prime Minister Faisal Fayez on Tuesday held talks with UN special envoy to Iraq Lakhdar Ibrahimi on development in the neighbouring country.Fayez said Jordan supports Iraqis' efforts to rebuild their country and achieve security.
Ibrahimi acknowledged yesterday that Iraqi officials were right to be wary of accepting military help from some neighbouring countries. “We must admit that at least some of [Iraq's] neighbours raise sensitivities inside the country. So it's normal when Baghdad refuses troops from its neighbours,” he said. “There are many other means that those countries can offer to Iraq other than sending troops.”
Ibrahimi on Monday delivered a message to His Majesty King Abdullah from UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. The envoy, who later yesterday met Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher, said Annan was considering assigning a new envoy to Iraq.
