King renews confidence in gov't

AMMAN (JT) — Renewing confidence in Premier Faisal Fayez and the government, His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday said economic programmes are “on the right path.”

Chairing part of a Cabinet session yesterday, King Abdullah urged “more steps to help citizens feel the improvement in their living conditions.”

The King said more coordination between ministries is needed in order to wrap up development projects on time.

Noting that there are still some obstacles facing Arab and international companies planning to invest in Jordan, King Abdullah stressed that such impediments must be removed.

He underlined that security and stability are elements prone to enhance Jordan's competitive edge.

On the issue of the leaked Tawjihi questions, the King said there are lessons to be learnt from the experiment and they must lead to better performance and a faultless testing process. He expressed satisfaction with Minister of Education Khalid Touqan's measures to handle the issue.

The King, meanwhile, directed authorities to facilitate the flow of food to Iraq under the UN World Food Programme and reduce charges on goods destined for the neighbouring country. On his part, Fayez said the government is in the process of reevaluating its performance after eight months in power. He added that through partnership with private sector, the government will work for eliminating all obstacles hampering foreign investment.
