Jordanian delegation attends terrorism conference

CAIRO (Petra) — President of the Arab Parliamentary Union and Parliament Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali said on Saturday that confronting terrorism does not necessarily mean a security confrontation. In his address at the opening of the international conference on the Legal Dimensions of Terrorism in Cairo yesterday, Majali called for a thorough search for educational, political, economic, religious, media and social means to face this phenomenon. “The cycle of violence and terrorism is increasing at a time when scientific progress should bring prosperity to humanity,” said Majali. He added that Arab societies, including Jordan, have suffered from terrorism for a long time. The two-day conference will discuss the challenges posed by terrorism to international values, human rights, in addition to the major aspects of Egypt’s anti-terrorism draft law. Jordan’s delegation to the conference is headed by Parliament Deputy Speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi.
