King urges involvement in political development
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on
Monday said that Jordan is determined to achieve political development and urged
full involvement in the process under way.
He reiterated that partisan fragmentation is an impediment to progress,
underlining the responsibility of the Lower House to render the
government-proposed Political Development Plan a success.
He noted that the “government has not yet received any study or comment from
political parties or political and social institutions in society.”
The King's remarks were made at a meeting with notables from Madaba Governorate
at Raghadan Palace.
The Monarch stressed the need to accelerate work in the development projects
designed to improve the situation of Madaba city. He stressed that the
development plan should involve the entire governorate, where old sites should
be developed into full-fledged tourist attractions.
At a lunch banquet, attended by Prime Minister Faisal Fayez and a number of
ministers and senior officials, King Abdullah said the Royal Court and the
government are ready to consider any suggestions regarding development projects
in the governorate.
Fayez said Madaba has great agricultural and tourism potential that should be
utilised optimally, pointing to the government's plans to direct its efforts to
the agricultural and tourism sectors.
Madaba community leaders said they were part of the political development
process, and expressed their appreciation of the Royal vision to advance the
Kingdom.
