King approves tourist train
plan
His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday approved a project to operate a tourist
train between Aqaba and Wadi Rum. King Abdullah was briefed by senior officials
on the project's stages. Designed to enhance tourism in the Aqaba Special
Economic Zone and create jobs for citizens in the area, the plan is expected to
cost JD3.73 million, of which JD600,000 is already available, while the
remaining amount is expected to be provided by several funds. The 80-passenger
train will take visitors to the Aqaba Citadel, the museum and the residence of
Sharif Hussein Ben Ali before heading to Rum through four stations. During the
trip, passengers can watch onboard documentaries on Jordan's history and
heritage, focusing on the Great Arab Revolt.
