Foreign Ministry
dispatches more buses to Beirut
AMMAN (Petra) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs dispatched ten buses on
Wednesday to repatriate around 400 Jordanians from Lebanon due to the escalating
Israeli bombardment. The source said the ministry would today send more buses to
transport citizens out of the conflict zone. The ministry has so far evacuated
1,136 out of a total of 2,700 Jordanians in Lebanon. Meanwhile, the first convoy
of relief aid to Lebanon arrived yesterday at the Syria-Lebanon northern
border-crossing of Arida. The truckloads of aid, ordered by His Majesty King
Abdullah, were received by local humanitarian organisations and will be
distributed to war-stricken towns and villages. Officials at the Jordanian
embassy in Beirut said the first convoy consisted of 20 trucks carrying 300
tonnes of tents, blankets and medicines. Charge D’affaires Mohammad Fayed said
the embassy had asked Lebanese authorities to send a list of the most urgently
required items.
