Iraqi women's rights
conference concludes
AMMAN (Petra) — An international conference on Iraqi women's rights ended in
Amman on Tuesday night with participants demanding that the country's national
constitution should include guarantees for women's rights on equal terms with
men. Salma Jabbo, the Iraqi minister of state for women's affairs, called for a
return to law 188 of 1959, which secured real political, social and economic
gains for Iraqi women. A similar conference was held in Baghdad last month.
