Conveying power to Iraqi Government, a step towards democracy, Arab Foreign Ministers said
Cairo/July 21/(Petra)-- Foreign
ministers of Arab countries neighboring Iraq Wednesday said conveying power to
the Iraqi interim government is a step towards democracy and to the formation of
an elected government.
In a statement issued at the conclusion of their sixth meeting in Cairo
Wednesday, foreign minister from Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran,
Egypt and Iraq together with UN Secretary General Private Envoy lakhdar
Lebrahimi stressed the necessity to back the interim government in Iraq to help
it fulfill its tasks in preserving security and stability in the country.
The statement also underlined the necessity to preserve Iraq's unity,
sovereignty and territorial integrity and called for non-interference in the
country's internal affairs.
The statement urged the international community to offer every possible support
to Iraq's reconstruction process and expressed the neighboring countries' worry
about the deteriorating security in the country which impedes the success of
political efforts to restore security and stability to Iraq.
