US-Jordan joint programme aims at enhancing export security

AMMAN (JT) — The US embassy and Jordanian officials on Sunday opened a five-day Seaport Interdiction Course for Jordanian customs and security officials in Aqaba. The course aims to exchange information aimed at enhancing the security of exports while facilitating the free flow of trade.

These steps are viewed as essential as the world's leading ports work to harmonise and enhance security measures to keep pace with an evolving security environment. At the end of the course, the embassy will provide to Jordanian officials new equipment used in the training through the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, including Customs Interdiction Tool Kits.

The equipment will be donated as part of the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) Programme, funded by the US Department of State. The total value of equipment and technical assistance provided to the government of Jordan under the auspices of the EXBS programme over the coming year will total approximately $1.5 million.
