Third Ambassadors Forum to
discuss economic issues
AMMAN (Petra) — Lower House Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali on Monday said the
traditional view that an ambassador represents a government is totally untrue,
as diplomats actually represent a whole country with its various authorities and
institutions.
Speaking at a lunch banquet for the ambassadors hosted by the Lower House,
Majali said the ambassador's role today exceeds such a common notion.
Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher, Minister of Political Development and Minister
of Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Daoudiyeh and Minister of State and Government
Spokesperson Asma Khader were present at the gathering.
Later on Monday, participants at the Third Jordanian Ambassadors Forum moved to
the Dead Sea to continue their deliberations on the economic sector, after
concluding their political discussions.
Over the past two days, the ambassadors met with ministers and senior officials,
and held talks over several local and international issues such as the political
development process, the separation wall and the situation in Iraq.
The participants also discussed the Kingdom's relations with its neighbours,
ways to enhance joint Arab efforts, the Kingdom's relations with NATO and
reforms in the region.
Meanwhile, the ambassadors paid a visit to the Royal Jordanian National Defence
College late Sunday, and were briefed on the national security policy and the
role of the college.
