Queen Rania calls for better understanding of Muslims

Her Majesty Queen Rania on Thursday called for better understanding of Muslims, insisting that “if we are to build true understanding among and within our societies, we must approach each other as fellow human beings.”

The Queen made the remarks in an interactive online conversation about Islam yesterday.

In her contribution to The Washington Post/ Newsweek On Faith series, entitled “Muslims Speak Out”, Queen Rania highlighted how integral Islam is to her daily life and work, reminding readers that Muslims are mothers, fathers, spouses, students, neighbours and friends.

Writing to the global online community, the Queen highlighted the beauty of Islam.

“Islam is an amalgam of virtues that guides my interactions with the world,” she wrote.

Queen Rania’s complete entry can be viewed online at the following address: http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith.

On Faith is an interactive conversation on religion moderated by Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham and Sally Quinn of The Washington Post.

Other contributors to this week’s series include Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair, Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, as well as a number of religious authorities and high-profile personalities from the Middle East including Amr Khaled, Sheikh Habib Ali Al Jifri and Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Ashaikh.
