e-services, solutions
By Rami Abdelrahman
AMMAN — WEBEX, the 2nd Regional Exhibition for Websites and Internet Technology,
concluded yesterday and for the first time included regional participation —
mainly from Syria.
The three-day exhibition introduced new services in e-government, e-commerce,
e-media, e-marketing and Promotions, ISP soultions, web design, e-banking, e-
tourism, e-education, e-medicine, Internet via satellite, GPRS technology,
shipping and couriers, Internet security, Internet networking, credit cards and
e-shopping cards, e-learning, mail and communication via the Internet.
According to the organisers, Style-Ebiz, such conferences are held to give
people more information about what they can do through the Internet, as only
seven million of the Arab world's 220 million population currently use the
Internet, mainly for e-mail and chatting.
On the other hand, they said, Arab companies' services are expanding rapidly
over the worldwide web.
“One of the major challenges to e-business is the lack of users. People are not
yet familiar with the benefits and advantages that the Internet provides...
Internet users in the Middle East are far behind what is available to them,”
Style-Ebiz Director Fadi Qutaishat said.
Information technology is not a business, but a way to do business, he told The
Jordan Times.
“WEBEX Amman was meant to be a channel for all sectors to present their services
through web tools, while providing the infrastructure for a growing electronic
revolution by giving the leaders of the industry a space to meet,” concluded
Qutaishat.
The average number of visitors at the exhibition reached approximately 5,000
daily, Qutaishat indicated.
