Aid representatives praise relief efforts
AMMAN (Petra) — International aid representatives
on Thursday praised Jordan’s speedy response in sending aid to ease the
suffering of the Lebanese people.
Three Royal Jordanian Air Force planes arrived at Beirut international airport
on Wednesday loaded with medical supplies.
The aid planes were the first to land in the Lebanese capital since Israel began
its military offensive on July 12.
In statements to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, officials stressed the
importance of helping the Lebanese people to overcome their current hardships.
“We value such assistance, which contributed to alleviating the suffering,” said
president of the European Commission Delegation in Amman, Ambassador Robert van
der Meulen.
International Air Transport Association Regional Vice President Majdi Sabri said
the Jordanian move reflects the country’s keenness to support the Lebanese
people.
“The Jordanian initiative is a regional model,” he said.
United Nations Spokesperson Khaled Mansour also described the initiative as a
significant “contribution to partially reopening Beirut airport to receive
relief aid.”
