Arab Foreign Ministers Start Emergency Meeting in Cairo
Arab foreign ministers started an emergency meeting at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo to discuss the outcome
of Arab efforts and contacts to promote the Arab Peace Initiative and activate the Middle East peace process.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Al Khatib and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmad Abul Gheit are expected to brief the
ministers on results of their recent visit to Israel that was designed to promote the Arab Peace Initiative.
Another topic for discussion will include a speech delivered by the US President George Bush recently in which he called
for holding a conference to discuss Middle East peace.
The ministers are also expected to review the situation in Lebanon in light of a report by the Arab League Secretary
General on efforts exerted by a delegation that visited Lebanon to pave the way for resuming national dialogue in Lebanon.
